Eventually, Everything Connects
Ray&Wren is the brain child of artist and multidisciplinary designer, Krystal Henson. After 28 years of working in (almost) every design discipline, Krystal started Ray&Wren to laser focus on the serious business (and fun) of creating art that feeds her soul and (hopefully) contributes to a brighter world. Her work for Ray&Wren is bold, uplifting, and always ethically made. She believes that design can help expand our “circle of concern” and remind us we are all in this together.
Good Design DOES good, too.
Ray&Wren is about using design to expand our circle of concern and working in solidarity in the fight for Social Justice, Economic Justice, & Environmental Justice.
What does this have to do with design? Why do we want to talk about “politics"?
We're glad you asked! Some might not think of making and buying cool stuff as the time and place to talk social issues, but I’d argue that it is the exact right spot! When we spend our money, buy things, make things, sell things, we are directly impacting the world around us. The artist, the farmer, the worker, the trucker, the sewist, printer, the environment, the local economy, it’s ALL CONNECTED.
Every dollar we spend is an investment. We are contributing to outcomes—good or bad. So what if we concentrated our efforts to contribute to as many good outcomes as possible?
Please know, we understand that we at Ray&Wren can’t solve every problem that ails society or even realistically ensure that we do absolutely no harm. But what we CAN and WILL do is strive to make specific choices that hold us to that goal. SO, what does that mean?
1. Every purchase you make will mean a donation to a social cause. We will have a quarterly rotation of organizations that we believe are fighting for the same things that we here at Ray&Wren, and our customers, care about.
2. We will strive to source our goods from ethical and socially responsible manufacturers in the USA.
3. We will strive to choose the most environmentally friendly materials and processes to produce our products.
4. We value worker’s rights and believe in dignity, a fair wage, and a safe workplace. When we are looking for partners in our business we prioritize small business, and well cared for workers. We believe in the power of Unions and value worker’s rights. We are especially looking for vendors who share these values. We will interview ALL vendors regarding these points. Additionally, we will strive to support minority owned businesses. (If your business fits this description and you would like to partner with us in our product manufacturing, please contact us!)
5. We want our customers to feel confident about where their products are coming from. Our storefront will provide you as you shop with all the relevant info. You will know if your tshirt was made with Union Labor, made in the USA, is organic, etc. BEFORE you buy so that you know your impact.
